Sunday, July 4: Scripture – Isaiah 55:12-13

12 For you shall go out in joy, and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall burst into song, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall be to the Lord for a memorial, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

Prayer Focus: Today is Independence Day. It is a day we celebrate with fireworks and music, hot dogs and apple pie. For the people of Israel, freedom meant joy and peace. It meant the creation itself would burst forth in song. As we celebrate today, may we repent of the ways we have denied freedom (intentionally and unintentionally) to others. May we repent of the ways we have used creation for our purposes instead of allowing it to sing as God created it to do. May we remember that our freedom is a call to serve others and the Lord. Pray that we might be part of an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off as we give thanks to God for the gifts we have received this day.
