2 He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. 3 You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you.
Prayer Focus: The work of God the Father as vinegrower begins with pruning, with cutting back, and with removing that which is not bearing fruit. Often in the church we are reluctant to prune anything. Once we begin a program, a class, a mission effort, a worship service, etc. we think it must continue until Jesus returns in glory. And yet, there is a season for all things. There is a time to prune so that new life and new fruit might begin to grow. The tool the Father uses in this text is the Word of Christ. Pray that you might be open to being pruned today. Pray that God’s word might speak to you as it calls out the places that are dead and not bearing fruit. Pray that you might be cleansed.
