4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths.
5 Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long.
6 Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.
7 Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for your goodness’ sake, O Lord!
Prayer Focus: These verses are full of requests to God: make me to know your ways, teach me your paths, lead me in your truth, and be mindful of your mercy. All of these are important, however I find the next request most interesting. “Do not remember the sins of my youth …
according to your steadfast love remember me.” For the Hebrews, to remember is not just a mental exercise, it is “to make present again.” The psalmist asks that God make present again not the sins of his youth, but his very self. You are more than your sins. God can see that and knows that. Pray that you might remember your true self today, even as you confess the ways you fall short.
