Matthew 1:21—Joseph
“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
Matthew 1 gives us the genealogy of Jesus and tells the story of Joseph learning that Mary was pregnant. Imagine all the emotions he must have felt, confusion most likely near the top of the list. Oftentimes, God’s perfect plan for our lives does not unfold as we predicted. It can even surpass our human ability to comprehend. Joseph was puzzled by the pregnancy, as he and Mary were not yet married. However, just as Joseph did, we can trust that His ways are higher than our ways: “All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet” (Matthew 1:22). An angel appeared to reveal to Joseph that this beautiful child would be the Son of God.
As we find our place at the manger this Christmas season, may we worship and humble ourselves before our Lord and Savior, praising Him that his plan for our lives will prevail.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, sometimes we experience feelings of confusion as trials come our way. Help us rest in knowing that all things work together to fulfill Your extraordinary plan for our lives. We praise You for the gift of salvation through Jesus.
