Scripture – Psalm 146:8-9

The Lord sets the prisoners free;
8     the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
    the Lord loves the righteous.

9 The Lord watches over the strangers;
    he upholds the orphan and the widow,
    but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.

Prayer Focus: The psalmist continues to describe how the love of God has real-life, practical, and even political implications. Setting prisoners free, opening the eyes of the blind, lifting up those who are bowed down, caring for strangers, orphans, and widows. While the plans of princes so often seek to benefit just a few; God’s love extends to those most in need. God’s love has hands and feet in the work for systems that promote justice and shalom (wholeness and peace). God’s hands and feet are yours and mine. The prayer today is the same as yesterday: that you might find a way to work for justice today.
