Prayer focus: In my research this week on the story of the Wedding at Cana, I stumbled upon this 1563 painting by Paolo Veronesa. This massive, 22×32 foot painting spans an entire wall at the Louvre Museum in Paris. It depicts a late renaissance era rendition of the Wedding at Cana, and this wedding is particularly lavish and grandiose. As we prepare to immerse ourselves in this story, take notice of the many narratives that unfold within this single painting. What do you think the artist’s intentions were in depicting Jesus’s miracle this way? Where do you see yourself in this scene? Where is Christ amid this raucous affair? I pray that as we approach this familiar story today, we may listen with fresh ears and open hearts. May we linger in Cana for a while, and catch sight of the glory of Christ, who is right before us.
