36There was also a prophet, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, 37 then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped there with fasting and prayer night and day. 38 At that moment she came and began to praise God and to speak about the child to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.
Prayer Focus: Day after day, year after year, Anna lived in the temple, praying and fasting. I imagine Anna to be a very patient person. And then, on a day like any other perhaps, Jesus shows up. The Messiah. Anna must have been full of joy and hope because she immediately began to praise God and tell everyone about this newborn child. This Christmas I pray that joy and hope inspire all of us to praise God with our lives. Even if this has been a difficult year for you, I hope that you feel joy in the little moments and comfort in those around you. Pray this week that you might be inspired by Anna’s response to Jesus’ presence, and that all of us might join in her celebration.
