Friday, December 27th: Scripture – Luke 2:22-24:

22 When the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male shall be designated as holy to the Lord”), 24 and they offered a sacrifice according to what is stated in the law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”

Prayer Focus: So often we miss this scripture passage.  We read about the angels and shepherds, about the wise men and the star, then we skip over to Jesus’ baptism when he is already an adult.  When we pause to read this passage about his childhood, we see Jesus’ humanity.  He was born a baby, who depended on his parents to give him the care he needed.  And he was brought into a family of faith, with teachers and mentors to help guide his way.  As we celebrate Christmas this week, I hope we can celebrate the people in our lives that have given us care when we needed it the most, as well as the people who have shared their faith with us.  Pray this week that we all might give thanks for the people in our lives who have nurtured us and walked this journey with us.
