New Sunday School Classes for children and youth
Come meet your new Sunday school teachers and see how you can grow in your faith this year.

Unity is a Safe Place for all of God's children. Anyone interested in volunteering with children at Unity is required to complete a Volunteer application, which authorizes us to complete a background check, and to attend Safe Place Training. Training is offered for new volunteers on a regular basis. Contact Kathryn McGregor at 547.5543 or KMcGregor@UnityFortMill.org to inquire about our next training.  Below are the Safe Place Policy and Volunteer form.

Nursery

The Unity Nursery is designed to provide a safe and loving environment for babies and young children while their parents are participating in Worship, Sunday School and some special events. We provide nursery care during both the 8:45 am and 11:00 am Worship Services and during Sunday School (10:00 am – 10:45 am) on Sunday mornings. We also provide nursery for various special services and events on an as needed basis.

We have three classrooms available:

  • Infant (Newborn to 18-months):
    • Room S104
    • Caregivers: Ms. Sylvia Coleman; Ms. Kisha Lockhart
  • Toddler (19-months to 3-years):
    • Room S103
    • Caregiver: Ms. Carolyn Blair
  • Preschool (All 3-year-olds and those who turn 4 after September 1):
    • Room S102
    • Caregiver: Ms. Angie Benjamin

Because we believe that consistency is important for your child, we have a talented and loving paid Nursery Caregivers who are present every Sunday. Collectively, they have faithfully served Unity’s children for over 50 years! This consistency creates a level of comfort and an atmosphere of security for your child. In addition to our dedicated paid Nursery Caregivers, your child will be cared for by our faithful congregational volunteers.

The safety of your children is extremely important to us at Unity. It is our policy to have at least two caregivers in each Nursery room at all times. All of our Sunday School teachers and our paid Nursery Caregivers have received background checks. Our paid Nursery Staff are CPR/AED trained. We also have pagers available so that we can contact you if needed. Lastly, our Nursery/Preschool playground is designed and reserved specifically for our 1 through 3-year olds.

If you have any questions about our Nurseries, please contact our Nursery Coordinator, Lauren Lochel.

New Baby Welcoming Team

We believe in celebrating each new baby at Unity. Our New Baby Welcoming Team welcomes new babies by delivering a special gift to the new parents and sending cards to our new parents. We also coordinate with the Food Teams to provide a meal for the family when a new baby arrives.

If you are interested in becoming a part of our New Baby Welcoming Team, please contact Kathryn McGregor.

Children In Worship

After the children’s message during both worship services, children who are 4 (before September 1) through 1st grade are invited to participate in a special worship opportunity.  Children in Worship is a special place where children can come to encounter God, to be still with God, and to listen to God. It is a place where children come to nurture their spiritual life.

Children in Worship uses the familiar four-fold order of worship. To begin, the children come into the Historic Sanctuary. They sit in a circle, surrounded by bible stories made just for them, with all materials at their level.  This special coming together of the children follows the first order of worship which is the gathering of God's people to hear God’s word.

Next, they will hear the word proclaimed through a Bible story told with multi-sensory materials that children with all different learning styles can value and enjoy. As the story is finished, the children are invited to enter into a time of wonder about the story. They are asked "wondering questions" to help them dive deeper into the meaning of the story.  These questions might sound like, "I wonder if the Good Shepherd's sheep have names?" Or, " I wonder what it was like to be in the ark for forty days … I wonder if Noah knew that God was with him?"

Third, just as in corporate worship the children will respond to the word.  The children have the chance to respond to the Word in a variety of ways including praying, singing, through an offering, using art and craft materials, building with play dough, or working in their Bible. As they leave the worship center, the children will participate in the last order of worship which is the sending out of God's people into the world. Each child will be given a special blessing as they leave to be God's disciples in their homes, schools, and activities.

If you would are interested in more information on the program, please contact Melissa Dye.
