Children & Youth Music Ministry
Margaret Monroe, Director of Music
Sunday 4:15-5:00 p.m. in the choir room
Junior Choir is for children in grades 2-5. Concepts taught in the Junior Choir include the ability to follow a vocal line in a printed piece of music, good singing posture, continuation of pitch matching, development of the natural singing voice, and understanding the meaning and significance of the text. Music for the Junior Choir will be based on the liturgical calendar and will feature a variety of styles. They will continue to develop a repertoire of songs, hymns, and anthems used in worship.
A youth choir will be formed seasonally to sing in worship at special times throughout the church year like Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter, and Youth Sunday. Be on the lookout for announcements! Youth are also welcome to sing solos or duets in worship throughout the year. High School youth are invited to participate in the Chancel Choir.
Sunday 5:00-5:45 p.m. in the handbell room
Cherub Choir is for children age 4 (by September 1) through grade 1. We will sing, chant, move, dance, and play musical instruments to teach and reinforce musical concepts such as discovery of the natural singing voice, matching pitch, experiencing steady beat, and recognizing patterns in music. Singers in the Cherub Choir will begin to develop a repertoire of simple songs and hymns used in worship.
Youth and Children Instrumentalists
There are many opportunities for youth and children to share their musical gifts at Unity in weekly worship services, as well as for special services like Christmas Eve. All instruments are welcome—piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, or percussion. Contact Margaret Monroe if interested.
