Coordinator for Congregational Care, Health, and Worship Ministries

This temporary, part-time (hourly), and non-exempt position is regularly scheduled to work 20 hours per week. This position reports to the Senior Pastor / Head of Staff.

Overview:

The Coordinator for Congregational Care, Health, and Worship Ministries in collaboration with the Deacons for Congregational Care and the Congregational Care Team, the Health Ministries Team, and the Worship & Music Team, will oversee Unity’s comprehensive programs for congregational care and health, and those associated with worship.

Core Attributes of Position:

The individual occupying this position will be assessed on, at least, an annual basis related to their performance. The nature of this position is one of being very interactive and collaborative among pastors, staff, members, and visitors. This position will demonstrate a high level of confidentiality in handling information verbally, electronically, and in print.

Specific Tasks of Position:

  • Recruit, train, resource, supervise, and thank volunteers for all congregational care, health, and worship ministry area and programs.
  • Attend regular (quarterly, monthly, as scheduled) meetings of the Congregational Care, Health, and Worship & Music ministry teams, which occur in the afternoons or evenings. Attend the twice-monthly staff meeting of the Unity church staff that takes place during daytime hours. Attend meetings or training sessions for ministry volunteers as needed. Occasional attendance of the monthly Session meetings which occur in the evening.
  • Prepare timely written and verbal communications to the congregation and the community regarding programs and activities associated with ministries of congregational care, health, and worship.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Congregational Care Ministry Team and Health Ministry Team, whose ministries include (but are not limited to) hospital visitation, Bereavement Guild, food teams, congregational breakfasts and dinners, older adults, card ministry, cookie bakers, care teams, medical equipment lending closet, health educational events, maintenance of first aid and AED equipment and supplies, and partnerships with community agencies.
  • Serve as staff liaison, along with the Director of Music, to the Worship & Music Team, whose ministries include (but are not limited to) acolytes and lay worship leaders, seasonal decorations, candles, banners and liturgical art, communion preparation, and special worship events.
  • If clergy, share in worship leadership and pastoral care responsibilities with other pastoral staff as needed.
  • Provide leadership for occasional projects such as the church pictorial directory or introduction of a new hymnal.
  • Coordinate and facilitate communication and action items with the church office staff, pastors, Session, Deacons, and other ministry teams.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One or more of the following requirements:
  • Minimum five years of experience working in a church setting.
  • An advanced student or graduate of a PC(USA) Seminary.
  • An ordained PC(USA) minister.
  • Experience recruiting, coordinating, and managing volunteers.
  • Experienced working in a team setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.

Skills Requirement:

In addition to the skills indicated by this position description, the Coordinator needs to have proficiency with computers, Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, etc.), and Internet. Knowledge and use of office equipment are also skills required for this position.

Physical Requirements:

Must have hand/eye coordination for use of office equipment – telephone, computer, printer, copier, scanner, and related equipment. Be able to walk through and around buildings as well as across campus. On occasion, climb stairs, bend down, and carry items of moderate weight (paper, materials, supplies, etc.).

Preschool Music Teacher 
Unity Preschool

Unity Preschool is currently accepting applications for a part-time Music teacher for the 2018-2019 school year, September-May. The position will be one day per week (preferably Thursday) for two hours between 9:30-11:30. Our music Program encourages and promotes self-expression and social growth as well as a love for music.

Responsibilities: Introduce small groups of children, ages 2-5, to the world of music using songs, simple instruments, and a variety of instructional materials, resources, and experiences. Assist with our graduation program.

Qualifications: Must be personally engaging and friendly. Must feel comfortable working with groups of children, ages 3-5. Must possess strong vocal skills; playing an instrument is a plus. Must be able to work independently.

Requirements: Experience teaching in an early childhood education setting. Musical background preferred.
