Dec 7: The Music of the Season—Revelation 5: 9-13

I love the seasons of Advent and Christmas. Anticipation grows. Our senses intensify – taste, sight, touch, smell. For me, the sense of hearing, especially music, carries me along in exuberant hope. We all know the familiar tunes to “fa-la-la-la-la” with or “rum-pa-pum-pum” to. We hum, whistle or toe tap to all the many carols and hymns that are so a part of who we are and whose we are. Music is an integral part of God’s creation.

After reading Revelation 5: 9-13 you’ll understand that all the music we make or enjoy here on Earth is nothing compared to what is going on in heaven. Three times in four verses John describes all the singing that is on-going. Not hums or quiet whistles but loud voices by thousands upon ten thousands. The decibel level must be off the charts! Every person and every creature is singing - notice not just making a joyful noise, but heavenly singing. WOW, can you imagine what the playlist is like? Exquisitely delicate praise and “stand-up gusto” adoration fills God’s heavenly presence with new songs, and, probably some golden oldies, too.

Let’s all sing. Let the music of the spheres fill us this Advent. Let our songs fill the world with love language from God’s heart. And may our songs begin with, “Maranatha, Lord Jesus! Your Kingdom come!”
