Dec 5 - Using God’s Gifts—Isaiah 6:1-8

In this scripture Isaiah sees the Lord in the temple and seraphs that are flying about. Each one has 6 wings. “With two they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet and with two they flew” I have always loved the picture this brings to mind. The angels are praising God:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

Isaiah feels like he is not worthy to see this wonderful sight. He says he has unclean lips. One of seraphs then touches his lips with a hot coal from the altar! Can you imagine? The seraph tells Isaiah he is now free of sin and guilt. Then Isaiah hears the Lord say “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And he said, “Here am I; send me!”

God has given each of us gifts to use to further his kingdom. Each of us is able to say “Here I am, send me”. During this advent season, look into your heart and see what the Lord has planned for you.

Prayer: Dear God, please lead each of us to “go for you” where you need us. Thank you for the gifts you have given us. Please help us to listen for your voice.
