Dec 4: The Great Comforter—Isaiah 40

“He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.” Isaiah 40:11

Jesus is the great Comforter! In our times of trouble Jesus is there to hold us and love us. In 2010, we lost 9 members of our church. These saints died from disease or old age and were gone too soon. Many of them were in my own family as I worked in my home church when I first graduated. It was truly a sad time. I was asked to speak at two funerals that year and I had never led or spoken at funeral. I had to rely on Jesus for comfort and guidance as I prepared myself for sharing in this new way. I wanted to honor the memory of my loved ones and also be a comfort to others.

We face many bumps along the journey of this life. We serve a God who loves us and protects us if we will let him. As a parent, we are to guide our children, modeling what Jesus has done for us. We know that Jesus has good things in mind for us. At this time of year, we are reminded of the blessed birth of our Savior. We are reminded we belong to each other and to God. Let this advent season of waiting on the birth of Christ be a blessing to you! Fill your heart with the knowledge that Jesus carries you with him and that the sweet baby has come to hold and comfort you in your time of need.

Prayer: Dear Lord, please bring us peace during this advent season. Remind us of your steadfast love as we enter into this busy time where we often lose focus. Keep us close to your bosom Lord, as we share life together with family and friends. May we remember that in the waiting for your birth, we have a blessing that is worth it. May we give all that we have and all that we are to this world we share with our neighbors. In Jesus name, Amen.
